The studio is in negotiations for the film rights to the Naruto”series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, first published in 1997. The manga, which has sold over 200 million+ copies in print, follows adolescent ninja Naruto Uzumaki, who dreams of becoming the village Hokage (The most respected and acknowledged leader in his village).

Naruto has generated an anime series in Japan that premiered in 2002 and lasted 220 episodes, while the Naruto: Shippuden sequel has been airing since 2007. In addition to the anime series, Studio Pierrot has developed 10 movies, the latest being The Last: Naruto the Movie set in the final stages of the manga. It premiered in theatres on December 6th 2014 and became the highest grossing feature film in the franchise, earning close to ¥2 billion (GBP 10.3 million). A new canon film, Boruto: Naruto the movie is set to be released later this month (August 2015).
Gracey is a former visual effects specialist who has moved into directing. He’s been attached to several studio projects that are in development — Universal’s adaptation of the New York Times best-seller 'Daughter of Smoke and Bone' his Elton John biopic 'Rocketman' with Tom Hardy attached and Fox’s P.T. Barnum biopic “The Greatest Showman on Earth.” The most notable thing I've seen which he was a part of was 'Ned Kelly' and I can't say I have anything great to say about it.
All I can say is I hope this doesn't get the 'Dragonball: Evolution' treatment and be forever forgotten by the wide western fan base. I'm personally not a huge fan of western adaptation of anime and manga into this form. Just looking at the track record of 'Evolution', 'Avatar the Last Airbender' and 'Live Die Repeat'... 'Edge of Tomorrow'... ALL YOU NEED IS KILL! (At-least use the original name) I don't have any high hopes for this but with a decent enough cast and script it could be for the smallest part a decent watch to laugh at.
For me the Naruto series is done, the manga ended nicely and 'The Last: Naruto the Movie' was the perfect end for me. Anything else is just fuel to the fire of the cash cow. Naruto was the first show that got me into anime nearly 8 years ago and I can say I am content with how it ended and I can happily put it to the side while moving on to green pastures. This adaptation would have to be something amazing for me to really want to jump back in.
